Stop Acting So Small

I think everyone is a sucker for a good quote, and the other day I ran across one.  This quote is from Rumi, a Sufi born in Afghanistan sometime in the thirteenth century.  Today, his works are considered classical poetry, and it is easy to see why.  His word choice is powerful and many times spiritual. In this quote, Rumi encourages the reader to realize their potential, and I really love the quote’s empowering nature.

“Stop acting so small.  You are the universe in ecstatic motion.”- Rumi

In the literal sense, every person is composed of the same materials as the Earth and the stars, and in a way that makes us the universe.  But considering the more metaphorical meaning, we are more than insignificant beings because we are endowed with the ability to do great things with the free will we all enjoy.  With time and hard work we can make an impact on a major scale.  Even with the smallest deed we can send tidal waves.  You are not small because you have the potential to do anything and everything.   By living with intention we can see the world as not a place that tosses us around in random directions, but instead a place where we can choose the path we want to take as long as we have the guts and stamina to do it.
